Advantages Of Owning Power Catamarans

By Heidi Carver

Boating is slowly becoming one of the most popular aquatic activities, in line with jet skiing, surfing, kayaking, diving and swimming. More and more people enjoy sailing with family and friends, experiencing life at sea at its finest. With the wind fanning your hair and wave lapping gently at your feet, it is not surprising to see more and more people rushing of to get themselves a boat and sail away from the problems back on land.

Water crafts come in all shapes and sizes. They come in all designs, according to their expected usage. Bass boats are used for fishing bass in fresh water. Bay boats are only for shallow waters. Dinghies have room enough only for two people, which makes it the best choice for couples who wish to have some alone time. Houseboats can accommodate an entire family. Cruisers are for overnight stay and power catamarans can set you up for days and even weeks at sea.

Powerboats are slowly gaining popularity among boating enthusiasts. This type has two categories, the single or mono hull, and the double hull. Yes, there is a particular sail boat that has not only one but two hulls. This multiple hull boat is more commonly known as, yes you got it right, the catamaran.

The catamaran is a powerboat with two hulls. It looks very different from the usual vessels that we see, because it has two parallel hulls connected by a sleek frame. This type of craft is designed for comfort and total stability, though most boaters are not easily convinced of its safety. Before you scoff at catamarans and go on to find a safer looking ship, here are some of its advantages.

Cruising is more comfortable on this type of boat. It does not move easily in swells. It most certainly does not heel. Sea sickness are at a minimum when on board a cat, so expect comfort and luxury at its peak.

A catamaran is easy to maneuver. Since it is light weight, pivots are done with ease unlike single hulls that would require more room to be able to turn around successfully. Also, due to its unique design, catamarans are able to reach places that are usually inaccessible to single hull boats.

Cats generally have more room. You can have more things on board, because two hulls are really better than one. Another good thing about this boat is that it does not have a dark area. Everything, including all the cabins are at an eye level, so everything is brighter.

They are obviously faster than other types. Whether power or sail, a catamaran can easily outrun any vessel in a race. This is also the reason why cats make excellent racing boats. It has two engines, so there is two times more power to run.

There are still many more reasons to choose a catamaran over most boats. Though they are generally more expensive, all these advantages make it a good investment. A lot of boat dealers also offer different payment plans so owning one will not just be a dream but finally a reality.
